The IHC 2023, held in Maceió, the largest event in the Human-Computer Interaction area in Brazil, featured the participation of researchers from the DAVI (Dados Além da Vida) research group, who presented their research and received awards. Several works were presented at the event throughout the week:

“Digital Legacy on Twitter: Users Want It, So Let’s Design It!” Authored by Nicole Santos, Silvia Amelia Bim, and Cristiano Maciel, in the WAIHCWS track – Workshop on Aspects of Human-Computer Interaction for Social Web.

“Memories and digital legacy beyond life: reflections of young people on the maintenance of data from deceased users on social networks” Authored by Luis Flávio, Daniele Trevisan, and Cristiano Maciel, in the CAPAIHC workshop – Cultures, Alterities, and Participations in IHC: Weaving new plots in motion.

“How to promote empathy in games? An analysis of the structural elements to be considered in interaction design” Authored by Vinicius Ferreira Galvão, Cristiano Maciel, and Kamila Rios da Hora Rodrigues, in the Games, Gamification, and Emotions track.

“Design of Therapeutic Digital Games Supporting Dialogue with Children about Death” Authored by Aline Verhalen and Kamila Rios da Hora Rodrigues, presented at the Junia Coutinho Anacleto Award and awarded an honorable mention in the Master’s category.

“A framework to support the development of empathetic games” Authored by Vinicius Galvão, Kamila Rodrigues, Eunice Nunes, and Cristiano Maciel, presented at the Junia Coutinho Anacleto Award and awarded an honorable mention in the Undergraduate Thesis category.

“Flashes of Longing – Mobile Application for Posthumous Tributes” Authored by Lucas Campos, Cristiano Maciel, and Daniele Trevisan, presented in the Posters and Demonstrations track.

And, at the closing of the event, Professor Cristiano Maciel, coordinator of DAVI, was honored with the prestigious “Career Highlight in IHC” award, highlighting his trajectory and impact of his research in the IHC community. The participation of students and professors from the project and the awards reinforce the excellence of the research group and its commitment to innovate and contribute to advances in human-computer interaction, especially in the field of death and technologies. Congratulations to all involved!
